2010 Estate Malbec

Having spent almost two years in oak barrel and now ten years more in bottle, this wine has developed beautifully. The thing to note about this one is that it’s still incredibly youthful and vibrant. Somewhat indicative of the vintage, the wine is acid rich, but also very complex in its character and flavor. On the nose, it opens with dark, black fruit—black cherry and creme de cassis. The fruit is followed up with an earthy character—fresh soil, tree bark and dried tobacco. On the palate, the fruit is fresh and tart—blueberries and blackberries that are just underripe, as well as cranberry and red cherry. The tannin structure of this wine has mellowed, but is still present and bold. On the finish, the tannin combines with flavors of bakers chocolate to leave you with a lasting impression of cocoa powder. At the same time, you’re left salivating and craving the next bite of your dinner. Between the acid and robust tannin structure, this 2010 Malbec is a versatile and food friendly wine. Pair with anything from a medium-rare filet mignon to your favorite pasta with marinara sauce.
