2017 "Select Barrel Reserve" Malbec

It’s rare for a wine to be as bold as this one without being heavy-handed, but this wine truly is elegant and balanced. With squid ink black color intensity and deep, dark fruit on the nose, this Malbec brags about how extracted it is. It was picked super ripe to allow the fruit characteristics to develop from red to rich black and blue. Aromas of violets, toffee, clove, ripe plums, boysenberry and dark currant pull you in. Flavors of blueberry, blackberry and black cherry then make up the heart and soul of this wine. The wine is unctuous, but falls off gracefully into a velvety texture with fleshy, sexy tannin. Finally, it is punctuated with flavors of dark chocolate, baker’s chocolate and mocha. It will age beautifully, as the fruit will only become more high-toned and pronounced. However, if you’re in the mood for a centerpiece wine at dinner tonight, it is drinking beautifully right now.
