2017 Pinot Noir

Once upon a time, this wine was boisterous and sultry! However, almost four years in bottle have allowed this wine to reach new heights. It has truly come into its own, now putting its best foot forward. On the nose, the black fruit that the wine boasted upon release has taken a back seat to more high toned red fruit aromatics. Pomegranate, cranberry rhubarb, and cherry preserves. Underlying that, black plum and bramble berries. You’ll also find a distinct floral aspect, like red rose petals, and some spices, like white pepper and fall spices. There is also a hint of hot cocoa mix—a clear tell that this wine spent time on new oak. On the palate, the wine is more reminiscent of the full bodied Pinot we met upon release. The tannin structure, while softer and more velvety now, remains robust. It is nicely tempered by a medium acidity, giving the wine levity and vibrancy. Time in bottle has allowed this wine to integrate and introduce a new layer of complexity, as the character of fruit has greatly matured. This Pinot has a long and beautiful finish of red fruit and new oak, just like a chocolate covered cherry.
